Helen Heery

Biography
Based in North London.

Helen originally learnt the batik technique used in work on a week’s course whilst travelling in Java. She later took evening classes to develop her skills.

Statement
My fascination for batik was encouraged from an early age by my uncle, who was living in East Malaysia, and regularly sent over lengths of batik fabric. I am inspired by the process itself, coupled with the stimuli of natural colours and forms. I also enjoy experimenting with batik on paper and have developed a collection of floral designs on Chinese paper, inspired by dramatic tropical plants, as well as those in my own back garden.

Media
Batik scarves, silk scarves & ties, handmade cards and larger pictures.
