About the Riverslade

The Riverslade Gallery was established under the umbrella of the Saffron Walden Arts Trust (SWAT) and moved to its current home in a beautiful, light and airy period room off Hill Street, in December 2007. The Gallery features a wide range of works in a variety of media produced by local and regional professional artists. The Gallery is run by the artists themselves and staffed voluntarily by artists and art-lovers.

We would love to hear from you if you are interested in helping to staff the Gallery please contact us.

The Gallery stocks original paintings & drawings, etchings & prints, ceramics, sculpture, textiles, glass, jewellery, mosaics and woodwork. Items range from large to small, for the home, gifts and for the collector.

Handmade cards featuring work by our exhibiting artists are on sale all year round, as well as for special occasions such as Christmas and Valentine's Day.

To see examples of our artists' works, see the artists section. If you are interesting in exhibiting in the Gallery, visit the how to exhibit section.

The Riverslade Gallery also serves as the offices of SWAT and a centre where those interested in the arts can find out what is happening in the area, as well as a place for artists to meet.

SWAT is a registered charity (no. 271365) with the actor Steve McGann as its patron. SWAT is an umbrella organisation which coordinates, encourages, and promotes artistic enterprises of all kinds in the Saffron Walden area. It set up the Riverslade Gallery to showcase the work of local artists, is involved in the Saffron Screen community cinema, organises arts events in the area including the Saffron Walden Arts Festival and the Arts in Walden website which is a calender of arts events in the area. SWAT also is actively campaigning for a dedicated and sustainable Arts centre for the Saffron Walden Community.

The Riverslade Gallery is open from Wednesday to Saturday from 10am to 4:30pm, with extended opening hours at additional times (see news & events).
